In Lok Sabha, Yogi Adityanath takes a dig at Rahul-Akhilesh partnership

NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister+ Yogi Adityanath today took a dig at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav, whose alliance+ the BJP defeated+ by a handsome margin in the state assembly election.

"I'm one year younger than Rahul ji and an year older than Akhilesh ji. The fact that I could come in between their partnership may be the reason for your (SP-Congress alliance) failure," Adityanath jibed.

His teasing remark, which earned a round of laughs and sent the opposition into a tizzy, was preceded by an attack on the former Samajwadi Party government for not utilizing the funds channeled to it by the Centre.

"Over the last two and a half years, the Central government allocated 2.5 lakh crore rupees to UP. But the state government utilized only Rs 78,000 crore. This was because they did not have a proper model for the state's development," he charged.

In his final address to the Lok Sabha, the newly-coronated UP chief minister hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policy of inclusive growth for turning the country's economy around,

"In the last three years, the development schemes and programmes implemented by this government are being viewed as an ideal model in the country and the world over... PM Modi is being hailed as a global icon," Adityanath said.
Citing the rise in the country's growth rate, Adityanath also acknowledged finance minister Arun Jaitley's efforts in this regard.

"I thank the finance minister for breathing new life into our country's economy," the UP chief minister said.

The firebrand BJP leader, who is viewed by many as a Hindutva mascot, then touched upon the Prime Minister's 'Sabka saath, sabka vikas' motto to say the BJP-led NDA government had ensured growth and development for all sections of the society.

SP, BSP could not ‘utter a single word’ against PM Modi: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said both SP and BSP could not “utter a single word” against Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister and CBI have their “remote control”. “Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati cannot utter a word against Modiji as he and CBI have their remote control,” he said while addressing a meeting in Jalaun in Uttar Pradesh.

Alleging that BJP and RSS are engaged in ‘touting of religion’, Rahul said they only love to be in power.

“BJP and RSS people do dalali (touting) of dharma (religion). They have no love for cow or religion. They only love to be in power,” the Congress vice president said.

Alleging that Modi is a “selfie and promise-making machine”, he said his promise of ‘achchhe din’ is only meant for his industrialist friends.

The Real Reason Why Rahul Gandhi Is Wooing Farmers, Though They May Not Vote For Him

Since Rahul Gandhi joined politics in 2004, his biggest ambition has been to revive the party's fortunes in Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous and politically important state.

The Congress party's rainbow coalition used to contain the extremes of Brahmins, Dalits and Muslims, leaving out the peasant OBCs. The OBCs have never been Congress voters. The OBC communities, the socialist parties and politicians who have represented, and their anti-Congressism, are well-entrenched in the state's history.

2,000 Khaats For Farmer Meet As Rahul Gandhi Launches UP Campaign

About 2,000 khaats or cots will be laid out at a ground in Rudrapur of Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh to seat participants of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's meeting with farmers today.

The "khaat sabha" is part of an extensive tour of Uttar Pradesh that Mr Gandhi begins today, aimed at energising party cadre and informing voters that the Congress is making a real bid at winning the state after 27 years. UP will vote for a new assembly early next year.

The 46-year-old Congress leader starts his 2,500-km "yatra" or journey from Deoria in eastern UP.

"My yatra from Deoria to Delhi starting September 6 is a campaign to secure the rights of the poor, farmers and labourers in government resources," Mr Gandhi said.

He aims to cover 223 of Uttar Pradesh's 403 assembly constituencies over almost a month.

The massive public outreach will see Mr Gandhi stopping in villages for close interactions with farmers, women and youth and for roadside meetings.

Rahul Gandhi (Centre) started the Kisan Yatra from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh.
A chunk of the yatra will be conducted on foot as Mr Gandhi goes door-to-door in villages collecting a charter of farmers' demands. As he drives through UP, local Congress leaders will join him for his interaction with people and roadshows.

State Congress chief Raj Babbar, who is conducting his own yatra in the state, will be there today as Mr Gandhi launches his campaign, and then will keep dropping in at various points.

Mr Gandhi, the Congress has said, will focus on attacking successive governments of failing UP and being unable to alleviate the backwardness and poverty of India's most populous state.

Critics see shades of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popular Chai Pe Charcha campaign from the 2014 national election in Mr Gandhi's outreach programme. They have been scripted by the same man - election strategist Prashant Kishor, who is planning the UP campaign for the Congress.

The Congress has announced Sheila Dikshit, 78, as its presumptive chief minister.

In the last UP assembly election, swept by the Samajwadi Party, the Congress had won only 28 seats. In the national election two years ago, it could win only two seats in UP - Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were re-elected.

Congress backs Rahul Gandhi, says BJP govt says one thing does another

Coming in support of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the Congress on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government says one thing and does another.

“Whatever the Congress vice-president has said is true. Whatever he (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) is telling is not implemented. He has not provided employment to the youth; he has not brought back the black money and distributed to each family Rs. 15 lakhs. Even he has allocated less money for health, education and so many things,” Congress leader and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge told ANI.

Kharge said Prime Minister Modi has reduced schemes like NREGA or generating employment. “So, we must see how this government is telling one thing and doing another. Therefore, what Rahul ji has said is right and we back whatever he is saying in the interest of the country,” he added.

Gandhi yesterday accused Prime Minister Modi of doing politics of vendetta by “scrapping” projects in Amethi , his Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

“Projects in Amethi which would surely have guaranteed employment to the people, were cancelled by Modi ji. He came to Amethi and said he will not do politics of vendetta. But the truth is people of Amethi are being acted against. Modi cancelled Hindustan Paper Mill, Mega Food Park Scheme and IIIT. He has stopped the Central School,” Gandhi said.

The Congress vice-president said Prime Minister Modi was harming the people of Amethi by scrapping development projects. “There was no fault on the part of people of Amethi…Modi talks of development but he is harming them. The projects that could have changed the lives of people here have been either scrapped or diverted elsewhere,” he added.

Gandhi said not a single person has benefitted by the Prime Minister’s promises of controlling inflation, depositing Rs. 15 lakh in the accounts of each citizen and upgrading certain towns to smart city. Ridiculing the Make in India campaign, Gandhi said, “The Babbar Sher (mascot of Make in India campaign) does not squeak even like a mouse.” He said not a single person got employment under it.

Accusing the Central Government of stalling the works of the UPA government, Gandhi said though Prime Minister Modi moved about all over the world giving speeches but nothing is being done back home. “Thousand of crores of rupees of loans of industrialists are being waived but not those of poor farmers,” he said, adding the erstwhile Congress-led UPA government wrote off loans of farmers totalling Rs. 70,000 crore.”

Gandhi vowed to fight for the interest of the people. “We are not in the government but we will fight for the interest of people on the roads, Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha… We know people face several problems like power and water scarcity,” he said.

Thanking his party men for their continued support, Gandhi exhorted them to vote for the Congress in the upcoming assembly polls in the state where it has been out of power for years so that it can work for development of the state as well as Amethi and Rae Bareli. He also dedicated to the people several road projects in Amethi.
