Live: Sasikala Pushpa makes statement on 'slapping' incident

 AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa, who courted controversy after she claimed she slapped DMK MP 'Tiruchi' Siva, on Monday made a statement on the episode.

A couple of days back, Ms. Pushpa told the media that she "slapped" Tiruchi Siva as he allegedly made offensive remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Following this, the DMK and AIADMK summoned their respective MPs. Both haven't given any public statement. But today, Ms. Pushpa wanted to make a statement in the Rajya Sabha.

Supplementary demands tabled

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley sought Parliament’s nod for additional spending of Rs. 1.03 lakh crore. Mr. Jaitley sought Parliament’s approval for transfer of Rs. 5,000 crore towards National Employment Guarantee Fund and Rs 1,000 crore for providing funds to Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves for Sovereign Strategic Crude Oil Reserve at Vizag, Mangalore and Pudur.

11:51 am: Sushma Swaraj seeks permission to respond. She says the House is concerned. The govt is worried. I have asked Indian Embassy and Indians to give workers of a company there after complaints. All have been provided with rations for next 3-5 days. These labourers belong to companies that have been closed down. In Saudi Arabia, the company should approve exit visa. But since these companies have exited the Kingdom, we have asked Indian Embassy to speed up the process of exit visa. It is not true that only minorities go to such countries. "Government will not allow any Indian to starve overseas," she says.

11:50 am: Ali Anwar Ansari raises the issue of Indians starving in Saudi Arabia. While acknowledging the prompt action taken by Sushma Swaraj, he says the bigger problem is unemployment in India. That is why people are migrating, he says.
