United States President Barack Obama on Sunday said America has not yet been able to elect a women president because it was not comfortable with powerful women. He told the audience at a fundraising event in New York, "We as a society still grapple with what it means to see powerful women. And it still troubles us in a lot of ways, unfairly. And that expresses itself in all sorts of ways."
The president said though the race between Hillary Clinton and Republican businessman Donald Trump should never have been a tight one, the underlining "sexism in the society" may affect the former secretary of state's presidential run. The outgoing president, who is currently endorsing Clinton, was speaking to a group of donors in New York.
